One hundred and twenty-nine years of parish life
English
Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church traces its founding to 1897, when a small community of Greek immigrants in Chicago first organized to provide for the worship and pastoral care of their growing community. From those early gatherings, Holy Trinity grew into one of the oldest continuously active Greek Orthodox parishes in the United States.
Through more than a century of parish life, Holy Trinity has welcomed successive generations — those who arrived from Greece in the early twentieth century, those who came in mid-century waves, and the children and grandchildren who carry the faith forward today. The parish has weathered wars, depressions, and successive moves; through each chapter, the Divine Liturgy has continued unbroken.
Today the parish worships at our church on Ivanhoe Avenue in Schiller Park and at the Transfiguration of Our Savior Cemetery Chapel in River Grove. We remain in canonical communion with the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, under the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople.
Our heritage is not a museum. It is a living tradition — a community of faithful gathered around the holy altar, offering the same liturgy that has been offered, in this language and in this faith, for nearly two thousand years.
